2007-08 Chapter Strategic Plan

THETA UPSILON STRATEGIC PLAN (2007-2008)

Goal: Increase meeting attendance to 75% by the beginning of spring semester.
Current state: Meeting attendance rarely reaches 50%.

Strategies:

1. Shorten “G of the O’s”.
Problem: Meetings last up to three hours. The main culprit are the lengthy “G of the O’s.” This section of the meeting usually exceeds two hours.
Plan: Effect cultural change, and the spirit of the G of the O’s. Orient them more towards the chapter improvement.
Strategy: Begin by limiting G of the O’s.

2. Increase accountability for meeting attendance
Problem: There is no penalty for missing meeting. Bylaws are unenforced.
Plan: Enact penalties for missing meeting.
Strategy: Enforce bylaw that suspends voting privileges for missing meeting. Require excuses e-mailed to the Consul, Pro-Consul, and Annotator for missed meetings. Form 51 brothers that accumulate four unexcused absences.
Goal: Strict enforcement.

3. Make meeting at a more convenient time.
Problem: Meetings were on Thursday nights, while many seniors have Society meetings on Thursday nights. Also, many sections meet on Thursday night, another complication.
Plan: Change meeting time to Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

4. Create incentives for meeting attendance.
Problem: Some jaded seniors feel as though they’ve had “enough meeting.”
Plan: After meeting is over, invite everybody over 21 to Rudy’s for a social event and treat seniors to a pitcher of beer on the chapter. Also, bring delicious snacks such as Doritos or Cheez Puffs to meeting.
Goal: More satisfied bros.
