Kappa Beta’s 2007-2008 Strategic Plan
KAPPA BETA MISSION STATEMENT 2007-2008
By holding brothers to a higher level of accountability, Kappa Beta seeks to further establish its presence in our community by excelling in social, academic, and philanthropic endeavors while passionately seeking a unified Chapter; all of these goals will be met by upholding the voluntary obligations we have taken upon ourselves, by living The Ritual, and ever striving to reach those admirable ideals which guide all Sigma Chis in their day-to-day lives.
Action Steps
I. Increase Brotherhood
a. This simple, seemingly frivolous act not only serves as an adhesive between brothers, but it increases the quality of communication, alleviates the stress of the busy schedules of fraternities, and brings the levels of accountability to new and meaningful heights.
b. Potential roadblocks are poor communication, brother connectivity (before brotherhood events), and a packed schedule.
c. Our procurement plan involves heavily utilizing a campus-wide instructor-based system (Blackboard), scheduling an abundance of brotherhood events, and scheduling and organizing these events far before they present themselves.
II. Stick to The Ritual!
a. Straying from the perfections of our Ritual by being burdened by a weighty business portion of a Chapter meeting, forgetting the true and real value of such ideas, or simply misunderstanding the teachings of such are more than a hindrance. By strongly adhering to that which binds all brothers fixes more than just apathy and minimal accountability, it guides us in directions which our distracting lives force us to sometimes forget.
b. Potential roadblocks are brothers leaving during "breaks" halfway through a Chapter meeting, lacking Lit.Es with a ritualistic tone, and simply not stressing The Ritual enough due to time constraints.
c. Our procurement plan involves reading ritualistic readings at every Chapter meeting, referring to The Ritual when there is a motion for suspension, expediting Chapter business in an accurate and efficient manner as to limit breaks, reserving these breaks only for exceptionally long Chapters (i.e. midterm vote and final vote), and stressing through leadership roles the level with which we should incorporate our ideals in everyday life in as many situations as possible.
III. Converge the goals of our ideals, brothers, scholastics, community, and voluntary obligations into a unified purpose.
a. Unity is not only one of the duties of the Consul, but it is up to every member of a chapter to accomplish and/or enhance this quality by communicating effectively, fully understanding our bond and common purpose, and deciphering exactly why we are personally passionate about the organization in which we are a part; this will serve as a guide for growth as well.
b. Potential roadblocks are common misconceptions of personal responsibilities in regard to the Chapter, general apathy, and progressive attrition.
c. Our procurement plan can best be explained through our previous two action plans, increasing brotherhood and sticking to The Ritual, in addition to enforcing the level of accountability among all brothers by incorporating all vital aspects of a successful Chapter in the everyday lives of all brothers; the method behind this aim is strong and effective leadership.
