2008-09 Chapter Strategic Plan
1. Transitioning all the new members into leaders in the chapter-
a. After a successful rush and a large graduating class this year we will become a very young house next year. We need to make sure that the younger brothers know how to handle different offices and situations.
b. Start looking at who will be the best choices for leadership positions in the future and groom them for those positions
c. Create and implement a “turnover” binder, which lists roles and responsibilities, this will assist in new brothers assuming leadership roles
d. Using the IFC and contacts throughout the university as well as brothers, create a leadership workshop to become premier leaders on campus
e. Kustos and brothers who know the ritual well will hold a ritual workshop to help teach others the ritual and the importance of it
2. Alumni involvement/ Alumni Board-
a. Are alumni board is pretty new and we need to give it some direction on what we want their involvement to be
i. Fund raising
ii. Job/ internship help and mentoring iii. Resume help
iv. House upkeep help v. Involvement with Detroit and GR alumni chapters, meetings, and events
b. Need more correspondence with our alumni, newsletters every month to keep them updated
c. Homecoming was huge for us last year, needs to be as big or bigger this year
d. Need an alumni event in the spring, our golf outing could be this event, but we need to market it better to alumni 3. Communication- last year there was a lack of communication between the executive board and the rest of the chapter. It caused confusion as well as a lack of participation in events. This year I plan on having more communication by use of online calendars, better reporting of e-board decisions, as well as earlier and more often announcement on upcoming events. We also implemented a points system on our house so there needs to be consistent updates and communication with that.
a. Another thing that will help chapter operation and communication run more smoothly is electing spring officers earlier. Last year we elected key positions after the spring semester has started, this year we will be electing all of our officers for the spring in the fall.
4. Involvement in community- This includes the MSU community, the Greek community on campus, as well as the East Lansing Community
a. MSU- We should have a chapter advisor by this semester, one of our brothers is the president of IFC and we need to keep putting Sigma Chi’s on the IFC and IFC committees, better scholarship program in the house
b. Greek- more involvement in all Greek events, attending other fraternities and sororities philanthropy events, better relations with other Greek houses
c. East Lansing- more philanthropy events from us other than Derby Days
5. House improvements/ stability-
a. Complete list of improvements for the house
b. Decide if we are going to go with a cook or not
i. If we chose to have a cook we need one who is much better than last years
c. Decide what is the best maximum number of people to live in the house and try to get capacity to that number
d. Create an emergency fund in case anything does happen to the house that needs immediate attention
