2007-08 Chapter Strategic Plan | The Eta Chi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity Spring 2008 |
Chapter Business Plan
Our mission:
Develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community
Our vision:
To be the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization-aligned, focused, and living in our core values. Leadership = Character in Action
Our Values:
Friendship, Justice, and Learning
The Spirit of Sigma Chi, as conceived by the founders more than 150 years ago yet visible and alive today, is based on the theory that. . . …Friendship among members, sharing a common belief in an ideal… …and possessing different temperaments, talents, and convictions,… …is superior to friendship among members having the same temperaments, talents, and convictions, and that… …Genuine friendship can be maintained without surrendering the principle of individuality or sacrificing one’s personal judgment. Financial Vision It is the goal of the Eta Chi Financial Committee to create our own self-sustaining Chapter, where we incur no debt; all of the Chapter’s bills will be paid in full and in a timely fashion, while at the same time building a healthy savings account and Capital Fund. In the short term, we will build our Savings account to be at least two semesters ahead in case of emergency. In the long term raise enough money through our capital campaign to purchase and operate a new Chapter House. Fiscal Policy The Dues Structure and Financially Policy will be reviewed at the beginning of each semester by the Quaestor, Alumni Financial Advisor, and Chapter Advisor. It is important to note as of January 16, 2007 the current Chapter By-Laws (Nov. 2006 Version) were amended to include the policy of staying current with the Chapter every semester from February 2008 on. Stated simply as of February 2008 every Brother MUST be paid in full or face financial suspension (unless on a payment program approved by the current Quaestor), the Brother then has fifteen days (15) to either go on a payment plan or go current, if not the Brother maybe charged off using Omega Financial, Inc. The following is taken directly from the Financial Section of the Eta Chi Chapter By-laws: Section 1 — Pledge Fees - The pledge fee of the Eta Chi Chapter of The Sigma Chi Fraternity shall be a non-refundable fee of $90.00, to be paid no later than one week after the formal pledging ceremony.-To be paid to General HQ along with form 400 A and B-Completed by the Consul and Magister.

Section 3 — Semester Dues - The semester dues of the Eta Chi Chapter shall be set by the Quaestor from a budget., from which allocations will be made to a social program and the active chapter program, but which will be collected as one fee. In addition, at such time as the Executive Secretary requests, the Quæstor shall pay, twice per year, the sum of $45.00 per active brother to cover his semi-annual dues to the General Fraternity.(for brothers who were initiated prior only to July 1 2005) Brothers initiated after July 1 2005 semi-annual dues will be $100.00 per semester for two semesters ($200.00 total). The Quæstor and Annotator shall submit these dues to the Executive Secretary along with the Semi-Annual Report before the prescribed deadline for submission.
- The sum of $10.00 per brother per semester shall be subtracted from these dues by the Quæstor to be used as a permanent endowment for the Chapter House. (A resolution by the chapter designating the use to which this money may be put should be adopted; otherwise, the use of this money shall be at the discretion of the Quæstor and House Corporation. Currently used as funds to purchase a new chapter house- Nov. 13th 2006, can be amended as necessary.)
Section 4 — Payment of Bills - All bills will be due and payable to the chapter at the first monthly meeting of each semester.

Section 5 — Payment Plans - The chapter shall have two payment plans:
- “Early Bird” Plan. To be calculated by the Quaestor.

Section 6 — Payment of Fines - Once a brother has amassed a total of $20.00 or more in fines, that brother shall be required to bring himself current immediately. He may do this in one of two fashions:
- Paying the Quæstor the full amount owed or volunteer community service hours for one of our approved philanthropies.
- Once a brother has amassed a total of $20.00 or more in fines, he shall not be permitted to participate in any chapter activities, including but not limited to any and all social events and intramural sports, until he has brought himself current to the chapter in all financial obligations resulting from fines.
Section 7 — Financial Suspension - Financial suspension proceedings will begin at such time any brother shall become delinquent.
- Financial suspension shall be carried out as prescribed in the Sigma Chi Statute 7.02.
- Once a brother is suspended from the chapter, a collection agency shall be contacted to recover the money rightfully owed to the chapter and General Fraternity.
- Brothers who are financially suspended, who are in the process of being suspended or expelled, or who are not current with their financial obligations to the chapter shall abide by the following stipulations:
- Said brother will not be allowed to attend or participate in any chapter activities, including but not limited to social events and intramural sports.
Communication Plan The Brothers of the Eta Chi Chapter realize that our success does not depend on the undergraduate members alone, but a great deal of the responsibility falls on our Alumni Brothers as well. It is extremely imperative to keep in constant communication with our Alumni Brothers; I propose a monthly e-newsletter and a bi-monthly Alumni-Undergraduate Ritualistic Meeting, using the Ritual well remind not only us, but also our Alumni Brothers the Bond that connects us all and the responsibility we took when we took the Oath to be Sigma Chi. As we tell all of our potential Brothers during their Pledge Installation: “You made a choice. Sigma Chi, as with life, is a series of choices. By your oath, you have chosen to accept responsibility for who you are and what you do. You have chosen the manner in which you will conduct yourself. And, please notice that I said, 'By your oath you have made these choices.' "I am a Sigma Chi. But more accurately stated, I am Sigma Chi. There is a fundamental distinction between the two, and it is something you must come to understand if the true meaning of the White Cross is to be known.” "And when the green on our graves has moldered away, some gray warrior sitting by night at the blazing fire will tell thy deeds to his sons, and they shall bless and admire the men of old." -William Lewis Lockwood Goals "It is amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares about who gets the credit."-Robert Yates - To create a fiscally sound Budget and stick to it
