2007-08 Chapter Strategic Plan

Overview
Where are we now?
The Epsilon Zeta chapter of Sigma Chi finds itself at a crossroads. Our chapter exists in a time of great change for the Greek system both here at Florida State and in the country. There are so many concerns that we face every day that it is hard to choose a narrow path or direction for us to head in. These issues, at least at FSU, include negative stereotypes, a flawed pledge system, a split greek community, lack of a chapter house, poor alumni involvment, and a complete lack of organization by past executive councils with poor transitions into new officers. These are all major problems. Problems in which I and my fellow exec members are addressing and making steps to solve. It is not easy to go from a broken sytem to a succesful one, but through hard work and a central direction I believe that we can do it.

Where do we want to be?
When I came into the office of Consul I expressed three goals, 1) To become the best all around fraternity at the Florida State University and win Fraternity of the Year 2) To strengthen our ties to our national office and the organization from which we find our selve a part of and to win a Peterson Significant Chapter Award 3) To finally unite our chapter under the roof of a brand new chapter house owned by our chapter. These are the goals of the men of the Epsilon Zeta chapter and it's executive council. As Consul I feel that these three broad goals can be used to put our chapter on the right track. These are the things that need to occur for Epsilon Zeta to be a succesful and meaningful chapter.

How do we get there?
How do we begin to approach these strategic goals? How can we overcome years of problems and unite our men to become a better chapter. To begin we must look at the well rounded fraternity that it takes to be the best at FSU. You must above all promote a positive image. How do we do this? We must first look at what produces a negative image and iliminate these things. Brothers must understand that to overcome the negative stereotypes we must not promote them. We must begin to push a positive image on the student population, other greek chapters, the community at large, and the university as a whole. Every action we take must be in the direction of a positive image.
Next we must consider what it takes to be a Significant Chapter. I believe that becoming a Significant chapter begins by being the best at FSU. It should be obvious that the three great aims of our chapter should build upon each other. If we win Fraternity of the Year at FSU, I am confident that we can make great strides towards winning a Significant chapter award. The things we must do to be the best at FSU or also the things we must do to be one of the best in the country. Campus wide involvement, Community outreach, and increased alumni support can all make us better.
Finally we come to the most crucial goal of our chapter. Ever since the late eighties our chapter has been homeless. Sure we have had multiple houses that we have rented, but without a chapter house of our own we lack the central identity that we need. Our chapter must call on our national organization, our alumni, and the spirit of our undergraduates to come together and build a house. This is a neccesity for our survival. With the face of greek life changing at FSU we must find our identity before the decade is out. I believe that our three goals all are intertwined and that by accomplishing any of them we must work towards the others. To be the best fraternity at FSU we need a house, to be a Significant chapter we must be the best at FSU, and to get a house we need more alumni support which can be achieved by accomplishing our first two goals.

Conclusion
To conclude we must set a path toward excellence. We must come together and follow a central road which will lead to greatness. The tools are available. We have great men here. We have the ability to shape the future of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Sigma Chi. This is a critical time in our history and if we do not take action we will fall to the wasteside. The time is now and the goals must be met. It is not going to happen by just talking. Talk is cheap. We must take action and we must take it now.
